EventsSeptember 2003: Tropical Savanna & Seasonally Dry Forests ConferenceThis was a joint collaboration between Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, The University of Edinburgh and the Edinburgh Centre for Tropical Forests. The aim of the meeting was to bring together leading researchers in savanna and dry forest formations throughout the tropics with a view to collating the endeavors of widely disparate groups and focusing attention on the key ecological, environmental and developmental issues. The conference focused on four principal themes: Plant Biodiversity; Palaeo-ecology and Environmental Change; Vegetation and Environment; and Human Ecology and Development. The diversity of the talks and number of stimulating discussions was a reflection of the wide range of participants. Some of the key findings from the conference have been published by the organisers. The book of abstracts along with the abstracts for the poster sessions can be found here. Amongst the many positive outcomes of the conference has been the participation of a large proportion of young delegates from developing countries (just under one third) and the numerous research links that have been set up between individuals and institutions. A list of delegates with their email addresses can be found at this link. If you would like any further information about the Conference, please do not hesitate to contact mail@ectf-ed.org.uk. |
