He is skilled in supporting capacity-building for complex sector-wide reforms and institutional change programmes. He has worked long-term in Africa on development of national forestry information systems development, local level institution building and governance through participatory approaches to natural resource utilisation and poverty reduction. Paddy is currently instituting widespread ministry-level organisational reforms working in South Africa as Team Leader on a DFID-funded Water and Forestry Support Programme. Country experience: Cameroon, Ethiopia, Malawi, Malaysia, Niger, Nigeria, Tunisia, United Kingdom, South Africa, Zambia Peter BaileyPeter is the newest addition to our growing team, joining the company in August 2004. He has over 17 years experience in development planning, the management of rural and institutional reform programmes and research work based around natural resources and land use. Peter specialises in strategic analysis, impact assessment and approaches to livelihood diversification, enterprise development and poverty reduction strategies through land use planning, agriculture and mineral development, common property resource management and community development. Peter delivers extensive training support to organisations that utilise on the sustainable livelihood frameworks, and previously managed the Role of Forestry in Poverty Alleviation Programme in the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation. Country experience: Albania, Australia, Balkans, Caucasus, India, Kyrgyzstan, Malawi, Mozambique, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, United Kingdom, Zambia, Zimbabwe Alex ForbesAlex is our in-house natural resource management specialist with 17 years experience in ecosystem-based and national integrated conservation and development initiatives. Having previously worked with IUCN, Alex has in-depth knowledge and expertise in national parks and protected area management issues, especially conflicts between high conservation values and the economic needs of dependent communities. He brings practical approaches to strategic and operational planning processes, change management exercises and participatory monitoring systems. Alex has developed and supervised grant management systems, is an established long term overseas Team Leader with LTS, and is presently Director of the Monitoring and Evaluation Component of the Darwin Initiative Programme and Projects funded by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. As the LTS Business Development Manager he is involved with internal strategic and operational business planning, marketing and project management support. Under his new role in the company, Scott will ensure LTS continues keep up its established reputation in the industry. Scott recently returned from Uganda working with LTS on the DFID Forest Policy and Strategy Project as an advisor organisational restructuring and launching the National Forestry Authority in support of the policy and legal frameworks LTS was instrumental in establishing. Country experience: Ghana, Kenya, Nicaragua, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Zambia Patrick HardcastlePat has over 35 years experience in forestry development and management, working with planted and natural forests for commercial and public-sector clients. His expertise encompasses forestry policy through planning and implementation to field practice, including research, education and training. Pat has been involved in several large-scale plantation development, natural forest management and afforestation programmes for public and private clients. Pat is a senior advisor to several international aid agencies and government departments on issues of forest economics, business planning, and programme level monitoring and evaluation. He recently was the Team Leader on a high profile global evaluation of ten years of support to forest sector development for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Finland. Country experience: Cameroon, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mexico, Namibia, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, St. Helena, Swaziland, Uganda, United Kingdom, Zambia Chris InglisChris is a founding member of LTS, and brings more than 30 years experience of international consultancy and 20 years experience in business planning and management at a senior level. His technical experience includes evaluation of sustainable forest management practice against established international criteria, monitoring harvesting plans and logging operations, appraisal of the sustainability of raw material supply and identification of operational improvements leading to reduced environmental impacts and enhanced business efficiency. Chris has been involved in the forest products industry and trade for several years, recently assuming the Managing Director role at the UK Timber Association. Country experience: Argentina, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Greece, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Indonesia, Latvia, Malawi, Malaysia, Nigeria, Suriname, Uganda United Kingdom, former Soviet Union Kristin OlsenKristin has more than 8 years experience that focus on governance of natural resources (biodiversity, forests and wildlife), sustainable livelihoods, and linking policy and practice through building linkages between local and national levels. She has ongoing experience utilising participatory methodologies and training approaches for decentralised forest management planning and institutional capacity building. Kristin has contributed to policy and legal reviews, institutional appraisals and development for civil society and public sectors, contributed to community forestry policy development processes, and published technical guidelines with experience in Africa, Asia and Europe. Kristin now provides process support to Community Forestry project in Uzbekistan for UNDP. Country experience: Cameroon, Laos, Norway, Scotland, Tanzania, Thailand, United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Vietnam Thomas PichetThomas is a new edition to the LTS headquarters based team, arriving in August 2004. He brings with him more than 9 years experience in operational and business aspects of the forest industry in Europe and Africa - forest management, processing, marketing and utilisation. Recently, Thomas worked with LTS on company-community partnerships assessments, auditing of plantation management techniques and investment appraisals for downstream processing. Thomas brings an in-depth understanding of the policy and socio-economic context of small and medium scale forest-related enterprise development in west and central Africa. As Business Development Coordinator he will be a common person on the public LTS front. Country experience: Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Germany, Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Uganda, United Kingdom, CIS, Eastern Europe Heather RobisonAs LTS Managing Director, Heather brings a comprehensive understanding of the complexities and risks of working in developing and transition countries and practical experience in both professional and private sector settings. She is an experienced commercial and business manager, with more than 15 years of quality internal and external audit and compliance service delivery. The majority of Heather's professional career has been spent working outside traditional fields of international development with a "big four" accountancy company. She brings a track record that has certainly added great value over the last 2 years in aspects concerning LTS corporate communications, strategic planning, organisational performance, financial management and systems development. Country experience: Cameroon, Hungary, Slovakia, United Kingdom Kirsti ThornberKirsti has over 10 years experience of working on policy issues concerning national forest programmes, forest industry restructuring, national certification schemes and public-private partnerships. Kirsti's policy and field work gives her skills to bring together the complex and often conflicting realities of natural resource policies in areas of community enterprise, local forest management, and making markets work for the poor. She has expertise in supporting the participatory processes that are needed to ensure balance between conservation and real peoples' livelihood needs in protected area management initiatives. Kirsti is the company champion on "dissemination" assignments, and has facilitated 3 major lesson-learning exercises in Cameroon, Malawi, and Uganda.
